Water Sports In Puerto Rico

Whether you enjoy diving, snorkeling, canoeing, surfing or windsurfing, you can find what you are looking for in Puerto Rico. The temperature averages in the 80s all year long and the water temperature is always warm as well. There are countless things to do on this island including many different water sports and adventures.

Scuba Diving

Scuba diving is impressive in Puerto Rico and there are plenty of places where you can go to see some of the natural beauty beneath the sea. Puerto Rico is considered one of the top spots in the world for off shore diving. You can see some beautiful corals as well as sea creatures when you dive off the shores of this island.

The best scuba diving spots on the island are located in the Northeast coast of Puerto Rico. You can go to Aguadilla or Isabela for some of the best off shore diving or take a boat and go in the sea.

Snorkeling

Not as adventurous as scuba diving but a lot of fun. If you want to feel like you are in a live aquarium, you will enjoy snorkeling in Puerto Rico and take a look at sea horses which you will be able to see up close. In addition to sea horses, you can also see parrot fish and octopus. Of course, you will not want to miss the colorful corals as well.

Snorkeling is perfect near San Juan and the beaches that surround the city as well as in Dorado, Mayaguez and Humacao. Most of the dive shops in the area offer to rent snorkeling equipment as well as classes. You can also, if you are brave enough, venture into scuba diving from this adventure.

Surfing

Puerto Rico is called the surfing capital of the Caribbean. You can find surfboard rentals as well as body boards in most of the shops along the beaches. Surfing enthusiasts like the Northern coast of the island and the beaches but you can hit the waves throughout Puerto Rico.

Body surfing is a lot of fun as well as is boogie boarding. This can be a great water sport for young and old alike.

Canoeing and Kayaking

There is nothing nicer than renting a canoe or kayak and traveling around the island of Puerto Rico. You can visit the many different cays as well as small islands that are largely uninhabited in the area. You can not only go around the sea but also in the lakes as well as the only river, the Espritu Santo.

Windsurfing

In addition to being the surfing capital of the Caribbean, Puerto Rico is also the Windsurfing capital. You can find windsurfing at many of the beaches in Puerto Rico as the trade winds make it an ideal climate for this particular water sport.

If you get bored with swimming in the pristine beaches in Puerto Rico, you have your choice of top water sports in which to participate in this island paradise. Puerto Rico is a beautiful island full of fun, adventure and natural scenic beauty.
