Activities To Enjoy In Puerto Rico

You can have your choice of fun things to do when you visit Puerto Rico. In addition to the beautiful beaches and fun festivals, you can also enjoy some outdoor activities that are offered all year long in this beautiful, tropical island.

Golf

Puerto Rico is considered to be the golf capital of the Caribbean. There are 23 golf courses on the island and there are plans to build more. American citizens can visit Puerto Rico anytime without worrying about visas or a passport and those who love to golf usually make this their second home in the winter. As the temperature averages in the 80s all year long, golfing is always available.

Many of the golf courses in Puerto Rico have been designed by some of the most beloved names in golf including Jack Nicklaus, Rees Jones and Chi Chi Rodriguez Many are located on luxury resorts and most are open to the general public with the exception of those golf courses that are located on the military installations.

You can find some of the greenest greens as well as magnificent fairways in Puerto Rico. If you choose to stay at one of the luxury resorts, you can enjoy full spa treatments as well as first class accommodations during your visit. If you like to golf, Puerto Rico is the place you want to be.

Horse Riding

Whether you are a serious equestrian or a novice horseback rider, there is something for you in Puerto Rico. Imagine taking your horse on a trek through a tropical rain forest or along a pristine beach. There are ranches throughout the island that rent horses by the hour and will allow beginners to either have lessons or guided tours.

Horse riding in Puerto Rico is always pleasant as the weather usually cooperates very well and the scenery of the island offers scores of adventures for anyone who loves to ride horses.

Fishing

Whether you like deep sea fishing or pier fishing, you can find your hearts desire in Puerto Rico. There are countless charter boats that will take you deep sea fishing for Yellowfin tuna, Mahi Mahi, White Marlin and other fish.

At sea, you can spot dolphin as well as other deep sea fish. You can also stay close to shore and rent tackle for pier fishing. You can fish for tarpon as well as snook in the bays that surround the island.

If you enjoy fishing, make sure that you visit Puerto Rico in he winter months when the fishing is the best. From October to March, the fishing is the best in Puerto Rico. There are charter boats available throughout the harbors in San Juan as well as Fajardo, Humacao and Mayguez. You can start fishing about one half hour after leaving the port as the deep sea is so close to the coast of Puerto Rico. Most fishing charter boats will supply you with tackle and usually run for a half a day or a full day, depending on which you prefer. They also usually provide snacks and refreshments.

If you are planning on renting a charter boat when visiting Puerto Rico, make sure that you book your charter in advance as this popular outdoor activity often fills up quickly.
